Phenotypes of knockout and complemented genotypes created in this work. A: Genotypes used in this study at six weeks after sowing following cultivation under controlled conditions with a 16/8 h night/day regime under 100 μmol photons m−2 s−1 light intensity (spectrum given in Additional file 1: Fig. S1). The koLhcb1 mutant exhibited a pale green phenotype while the koLhcb2 genotype was indistinguishable from the wild type plant (upper row). Neither genotype was affected in their growth. The cB1.3 and cB1.3T38V lines resulting from the complementation of the koLhcb1 genotype recovered the fully green phenotype.
